A Question worth carrying

Human beings influence the living world simply by being part of it.

We eat, build, travel, cultivate land, create technologies and transform landscapes. There is no realistic version of human life without ecological impact.

The more useful question is what kind of impact we choose to have.

Understanding does not automatically create perfect behaviour, and responsibility does not require perfection. But knowledge can change the quality of our decisions.

When we understand where materials come from, landscapes become part of the products we use.

When we understand pollination, insects become part of the food we eat.

When we understand ecosystems, conservation becomes more than the protection of distant places.

The relationships were already there.

We are simply learning to see them more clearly.

And perhaps that is a good place to begin.
